Areas I'm looking into:
Ripping normals from layer sliced volumetrics/atmospherics.
Emulating sfumato, tenebrism, chiaroscuro, and egg tempera methods in the digital medium.
Soft-light layer blending for a translucency pass in skin shaders (similar to mental rays fast sss skin).
